2026 KeynoteEMILY HARRINGTON
The 2026 Small Business Lending Forum is thrilled to welcome professional climber and mountaineer Emily Harrington as its keynote speaker.
Navigating Risk & Learning From Failure
Emily Harrington is a climber in a league of her own. The seven-time U.S. National Sport Climbing Champion is not only a world-class competitor but also a master of legendary big walls and awe-inspiring peaks.
Undoubtedly, Emily’s greatest achievement occurred in 2020 when she became the fourth woman in history to free climb Yosemite’s El Cap in less than 24 hours – and the first to do so via the Golden Gate route – captured in her feature-length documentary *Girl Climber. This bold choice of route speaks to her ethos as a climber: she thrives on struggle and draws strength from the fight.
The Boulder-born athlete has been climbing since age ten, and from the moment Emily discovered the sport, nothing else mattered. Her career began in competition climbing but soon blossomed into big wall ascents. In 2008, Emily joined The North Face team and set out to tackle the world’s most formidable mountains, including the big walls of Nepal, China, Myanmar, Crimea, and Morocco. In 2012, Emily embarked on an expedition to summit Everest with The North Face team and National Geographic. It was there that she met her now-husband, fellow climber Adrian Ballinger.
Emily and Adrian are a dynamic duo, supporting each other as partners, parents, and peers. Their insatiable love of adventure takes them around the world as they continue to engage with the unexpected and seek out seemingly impossible challenges. They share their story and give viewers a glimpse into their life via their YouTube channel, DangerStikTV.
In everything she does, Emily’s kind and resilient nature shines through. She’s not afraid of getting knocked down – in fact, she embraces it, because she’s more than strong enough to get back up.

From Forecasts to Fundamentals: Navigating 2026
What a difference a year makes. Last year’s change in administration brought forecasts of broad tariffs, trade shocks, and a hard landing. The reality was more uneven: real impacts in specific sectors, alongside more resilience than many expected. In this general session, we will look back at what truly moved the market in 2025, outline what small business lenders should prepare to navigate in 2026, and how small businesses are adapting. Topics include the expanding role of private credit in small business finance, a cooling labor picture, AI-driven productivity shifts, persistent geopolitical tension, evolving trade realignment, and the ongoing tug-of-war among rates, deficits, and inflation. Expect practical takeaways for portfolio, origination, credit, pricing, and servicing.
2:45pm - 3:45pm
ABS and Securitization Technology
As specialty finance lenders grow beyond warehouse lines and other private facilities, the transition into the ABS market introduces a very different level of structure, discipline, and ongoing operational requirements. That shift often requires lenders to rethink their operational infrastructure, upgrade reporting workflows, and adopt controls that satisfy institutional expectations. The process can feel demanding, but it also creates a foundation that supports scale and long-term capital markets access. What can we take from the discipline of securitization and apply as we grow our business, to improve liquidity, reduce risk, and increase investor confidence, and when should we start? Our panel will break down what that journey looks like in practice and share lessons from both the issuer and investor perspective.
The Lender's Edge: Positive Intelligence in an Accelerating World
